Dr Sri Suci Utami Atmoko - researcher

Dr Sri Suci Utami Atmoko has almost 20 years of experience in orangutan research and conservation and has worked at the Universitas Nasional’s (UNAS) Faculty of Biology in Jakarta since 2002.

Most of her field research has been in Ketambe, Leuser National Park, Aceh, Sumatra, and Tuanan, Central Kalimantan. Her speciality subjects are behavior, ecology, physiology and genetics.

Dr Utami Atmoko started her research in Ketambe focusing on the socioecology of Sumatran orangutan and wrote her dissertation on bi-maturism in orangutan males. For her doctoral degree, from Utrecht University, she studied reproductive and ecological strategies.

Together with a UNAS research team, she is collaborating on a research project with Professor Carel van Schaik (Zurich University) and Dr Erin Vogel (Washington University). The group are studying island differences relating to orangutan ecology, behavior, genetics, physiology and nutrient values.

She also leads communications for a UNAS research network with national and international partners (including universities, NGOs, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, and the Ministry of Forestry). Along with her fieldwork expertise, Dr Utami Atmoko has been an advisor to filmmakers and provided training for government, national NGOs and universities.

Dr Utami Atmoko has worked with the IUCN-SSC Primate Specialist Group, the Association of Indonesian Primatologists, the Indonesia Orangutan Forum, and the GRASP-UNEP Scientific Commission as the South East Asia representative. Together, with the OCSP-USAID survey team, she discovered wild orangutan populations in the West Toba Region of North Sumatra.

Lily Wardoyo - conservationist

Lily Wardoyo is a conservationist and activist who believes in getting involved in projects that drive change at a grassroots level. She has been our advisor for many years.

Born and raised in Semarang, Central Java, Lily studied languages while working for the World Health Organization. She moved to Jakarta in 1976, and worked for two multi-national organizations, before joining HSBC. When she retired in 2001, she was HSBC’s Vice President of Institutional Banking. 

Lily has always had a passion for wildlife and conservation and is a qualified divemaster. Her love of diving has taken her throughout Indonesia and beyond. 

Alongside supporting FNPF, she is also chairperson of Yayasan Bali Peduli, an Indonesian health NGO that works in the area of HIV testing and treatment, as well as providing support to men, women and children impacted by HIV. Lily is committed to doing everything she can to help improve the health and well-being of people and the environment
